How to flip a photo online

It takes about three seconds, works on phones and desktops, and needs nothing installed.

  1. Choose your photo from your computer or phone gallery, or drag it onto the tool.

  2. Select Horizontal to mirror it or Vertical to turn it upside down.

  3. Pick a format. Keep the original, or choose JPG for a small file and PNG for maximum quality.

  4. Download your flipped photo — it is saved straight to your device.

Horizontal vs. vertical flip: see the difference

The same photo, flipped each way. A horizontal flip mirrors left and right; a vertical flip turns the picture upside down.

Original
The same photo flipped horizontally — the sailboat and text are mirrored left to right
Flipped horizontally
The same photo flipped vertically — the sea is on top and the image is upside down
Flipped vertically
The same photo flipped both horizontally and vertically, equal to a 180 degree rotation
Flipped both ways

Flip photos without installing an app

Phones and computers can flip photos, but the button is often buried in an edit menu — and some gallery apps do not have one at all. This online photo flipper works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Chromebook, with nothing to download.

Because the flipping happens on your device rather than on a server, there is no upload progress bar to wait for. Even large 12- or 48-megapixel photos flip instantly.

Fix a mirrored selfie

When you take a selfie, the camera preview acts like a mirror. That feels natural while you are framing the shot, but it means:

  • Text on clothing, signs and books comes out backwards.
  • Your hair parting and features are on the “wrong” side compared with how friends see you.
  • Group selfies can look subtly off next to photos taken by someone else.

A single horizontal flip solves all three. If you would rather stop it happening at all, iPhones have a Mirror Front Camera switch under Settings → Camera, and many Android cameras offer a similar “save selfies as previewed” option.

Keep your photos private

Photos are personal. They can show your home, your kids and — through hidden EXIF data — the exact place they were taken. With this tool:

  • The photo never leaves your device. There is no upload, so there is nothing for anyone to intercept or store.
  • Location data is removed from the download. The flipped file is a clean copy without the original GPS tags.

Choose the right format for photos

For most photos, JPG is the best choice: it keeps files small and looks identical to the original at the default quality. Pick PNG if you plan to edit the photo again and want zero compression, or WebP for the smallest file to share on the web.

Want to flip graphics, logos or screenshots instead? The main image flipper is tuned for every kind of picture.

Frequently asked questions

How do I flip a photo online for free?

Add your photo to the tool on this page, choose Horizontal or Vertical, and click Download. There is no charge, no sign-up and no watermark.

Why do my selfies look flipped?

Front cameras show a mirrored preview because that is what we are used to seeing in a mirror. Some phones also save the photo that way. Flip the photo horizontally to see yourself as others see you and to make text readable.

Will flipping my photo lower its quality?

No. The flip keeps every pixel and the full resolution. If you save as JPG, a 92% quality setting keeps photos visually identical while keeping file sizes reasonable.

Does the flipped photo keep my location data?

No. Exported photos do not include the original EXIF metadata such as GPS coordinates or camera details, which makes them safer to post online.

Can I flip iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac, which can read HEIC files. In other browsers, export the photo as JPG first or share it from your Photos app, which usually converts it automatically.
